Meditation in Pregnancy
WHAT IS MEDITATION?
Meditation is the act of quietening your mind and centering
it within you …it can be done in various ways and it is one of
the most difficult task in life – taming your mind is next to
impossible and meditation is the only means to it.
WHAT IS THE BENEFIT TO MY CHILD OR
ME?
MEDITATION is a perfect antidote to stress. Our natural
being and impulse in life is to remain happy irrespective of
the happenings of the world. But with time our mind gets
conditioned to observe and react to the events in life whatever
it may be and with time we tend to worry for the smallest of
things and stress about the things that have not even occurred.
STRANGE but universal, it is amazing how we all fall into this
trap.
Meditation if done regularly and persistently can get us out
of it. The immediate response to quietening of our mind is the
fall in the heart rate, decrease in blood pressure, slowed
breathing pattern, leveling of stress hormones and a feeling of
peace and calm. No drug can cause such a dramatic decrease in
the level of stress.
Meditation makes you a witness to the worldly events and not a
victim of it.
It helps you to be more centered, more responsive, less
reactive, more creative and less anxious. Your awareness to
yourself and your surroundings increase as a result of which
your baby too experiences the same effects.
You learn to live in the present moments and it allows you
to accept and be aware of yourself transforming to a mother,
and acknowledge the intelligence behind this creation, thus
making you more dutiful towards your role as a mother and a
creator.
You will experience a world of silence and learn to bask in
it and also to connect to nature and the higher intelligence
within it. Your baby will start his journey with this knowledge
and you both will share the ultimate feeling of love and
respect towards each other.
HOW TO DO MEDITATTION?
There are various ways and you can learn from the centre
nearest to your residence, but we give you a few easy to
practice but effective ones here.
- Find a quiet spot in your house, preferably the same
everyday at the same time, just to put you into a regular
pattern.
- Sit comfortably on the floor or the chair with your
back straight and supported and your head held
straight.
- Relax and breathe slowly and normally for some time to
quieten your activities. Now be an observer to your mind
and see effortlessly how your mind creates and processes
the patterns in your mind. Do not resist or think. Just see
these thoughts come and go.
- Slowly concentrate on your breathing. Feel it and
experience it entering and leaving your body and feel the
nourishment to you and your body.
- You will experience a feeling of calm descend on you
.sometimes your attention may divert to some thought or
your worry. As soon as you realize it, try to shift back to
being an observer.
- After a few days when the concentration is a little
better, you may start saying or mentally repeating one
particular word of your choice in your mind without the use
of your tongue. All the while concentrating on the spot in
between your eyes.
- Do this everyday, persistently and benefit yourself and
your baby through this.
- Sometimes you may experience yourself thinking about
everything and anything, you may feel like sleeping. Do not
distress and go along with your body and instincts.
- There will be moments in meditation where you will feel
a sudden gap or blankness and your awareness shifts beyond
your body and your surroundings. This is higher awareness
and the state where you can connect to your real being. It
will give you extreme pleasure and peace.
All in all meditation will lead you and your baby to a world
where you will exist in your most natural and happy form and
live in this world with heightened perspective and senses, thus
flowing with life without getting affected by the minor twists
and turns of its flow. Give this gift to your child. It is your
duty to do so.
