What is actually happening to your
baby in these weeks?
 |
|
Note: Experts say every baby grows
differently. This information gives you
a general idea about fetus
growth
|
-
The fetal crown to rump length is 9.3cm to 10.5 cm
and the weight is 50 gms.
-
Your baby will now start with his first breathing
which will be in the form of
hiccups.
-
He is swallowing amniotic fluid and the mouth opens
and closes.
-
Ultrasound will
actually show him thumb sucking
too.
-
The bones are getting harder each day.
-
Legs are growing longer than the arms now,
fingernails are fully formed and all the joints and
limbs can move.
-
You may be able to find out the sex of your
baby by ultrasound
now, since the external genitals may be
developed. even if the parts are developed ,
sometimes the baby may cover it with his legs or
arms thus making it difficult to still see the sex
of the child.
-
Eyes continue to move forward and ears continue to
develop externally. Although his eyes are fused
shut, he is becoming sensitive to light and will
appear to squint.
-
The hair follicles are producing the
pigment for the hair as per his genes.
APPEARANCE
Now your baby is in proportion and he is even growing fluffy
hair on his head. His skin is still very thin and translucent,
and the network of complicated vessels can be seen beneath
it.
MOVEMENTS
Your baby is still moving and floating freely in the womb,
bliss surrounding him in your cocoon. At this time, he has not
assumed any position till now and can be head down now and
bottom down the very next minute.
Suddenly, unannounced at this time you may feel a sudden
jerk or subtle vibrations. yes. this is your baby’s first
movement. Most mums-to-be discern movement (called
quickening) between 16 and 20
weeks. If you've been pregnant before, you'll feel
things earlier rather than later. What you may first think is a
rumbling stomach or a funny vibration in your stomach may be
your baby doing some back flips.
MOTHER
Now your uterus is rising above the hip bone
and you can feel it 2-3 inches below the navel.
Your doctor will start taking fundal
height (top of the uterus) to monitor the
growth of the baby.
You start feeling at the top of the world,
your skin may start glowing, the
fatigue is less and pregnancy actually becomes
a thing of pride and joy.
As you grow in size, finding a comfortable
sleeping position may become even more
difficult. Lying on your back at this time can
cause problems as the uterus compresses on
important vessels and it can decrease the blood
supply to the baby.
You may also experience shortness of
breath due to your enlarging abdomen.
It will get relieved by lying on your
side. If you still cannot get
relieved, sitting partially up on a recliner
may help.

NUTRITION:
Now that the morning sickness is at bay, it is time to start
adding that 300 calories extra in your diet.
|
TIP for
DADDY
Call your partner during the day and let her
know that you are thinking about her and the
baby.
|
NOTE:
You get devices in the market wherein you
can hear the baby’s heartbeat at home.
It might not be very clear. But don’t panic,
it’s not so clear because the baby is very
small and several layers away.
As the baby grows, it will start becoming
more clear.
