What is actually happening to your baby in these weeks?

Pregnancy week 29

Note: Experts say every baby grows differently. This information gives you a general idea about fetus growth

  • Your baby now weighs around 2.5 pounds / 1.1 kilograms and measures about 15 inches / 38 centimeters from head to toe.
  • Because the growth is very rapid from now on, each day matters and absence of even one day can have a dramatic impact on the size of the baby born.
    1. Generally found that boys weigh more than girls.
    2. Birth weight of an infant increases with the increasing number of pregnancies you have.
  • In boys, testicles descend from near the kidneys through the groin en route to the scrotum.
  • In girls, the clitoris is relatively prominent because it's not yet covered by the still-small labia. These will grow to cover it in the last few weeks before birth.
  • Your baby's head is getting bigger, and brain growth is very rapid at this time. Nearly all babies react to sound by 30 weeks.
  • Your baby’s eyes can now focus and he can also blink. He may be able to see shadows and silhouettes of shapes of the outside world.
  • If your baby is born now, he has a good chance of surviving, and will be a preterm child.
  • Kids born between 38th to the 42nd week are full term and after 42 weeks, they are called post term babies.

APPEARANCEPregnancy Tip

Your baby’s head is now in proportion to his arms and legs. The fat deposition has taken place and the baby looks less wrinkled. The skin is thicker and the vessels cannot be seen underneath.

MOVEMENTS

There is still plenty of space for your baby to move. Now you should be feeling at least ten movements per day. You will even feel her somersaulting.

MOTHER

Your uterus is 3.5 to 4 inches above the belly button.

This is the time when all the problems of pregnancy like itchy skin, breathlessness, hemorrhoids, leg cramps, heartburn and muscle aches takes a toll.

Your baby's nutritional needs reach their peak during the third trimester. You'll need plenty of protein, vitamin C, folic acid, iron, and calcium (about 200 milligrams is deposited in your baby's skeleton every day), so eat foods rich in these nutrients. The skeleton hardens even more and the brain, muscles, and lungs continue to mature.

Also there will be a sudden spurt in the brain growth of the baby. So it’s important to take the brain forming nutrients in the baby (link)
‘Eating little and often ‘comes on its own now as your baby is squashing your stomach, making you feel full much sooner.

Eating smaller amounts will help you in heart burn also.

TIP for DADDY

Now is the time to change your work schedule and be home most of the time.

This is also a good time to travel in case you want to spend some quality time for personal growth.
