Pregnancy week 31

Note: Experts say every baby grows differently. This information gives you a general idea about fetus growth

  • Your baby's arms, legs and body continue to fill out -- and they are finally proportional in size to her head.
  • She weighs about 3.3 pounds/1.5 kilograms and looks more like a newborn. She measures about 16 inches/ 41 centimeters from crown to toe.
  • You may notice your baby isn't moving around as much. Don't worry; she's just running out of space in your uterus. As long as you can feel her squirming, you'll know she's just fine. Believe it or not, she still has plenty of growing to do. You can expect her to gain at least two more pounds/900 grams before delivery.
  • Your baby's organs are continuing to mature and she is passing water from her bladder: - brain scans have shown that fetuses have periods of dream sleep around month eight.
  • Your baby’s lungs have started secreting surfactant-the main ingredient which will help the lungs to expand and help your baby to take her first breath.

APPEARANCE

Your baby is as long as a stick of celery. Now he is also aware of you exercising, talking, singing, and playing music. His body fat now accounts for 3.5 % of his body weight but by birth, this will rise to 15%.your baby’s skin looks much healthier and is not as dark and reddish as before. The skin on his face looks round and chubby.

MOVEMENTS

Your baby is becoming more aware and will respond to outside sounds and your movements. Most of the times his chin is on his chest and he has a crammed up room to stay in.

MOTHER

Your abdomen may be aching frequently now as your uterus is stretching more and more. Your uterus is about 4 1/2 inches above your belly button with ten weeks to go.

You've probably gained three to four pounds / 1.3 to 1.8 kilograms this month. Gaining pound/450 grams a week is quite normal during the last trimester as your baby has a final growth spurt before birth.

The swelling in the hands and legs may also increase at this time and your normal shoes may refuse to fit.

NUTRITION

As your baby's bones harden and grow, your calcium needs are even greater. Be sure your diet is adequate in calcium, protein, iron and folic acid.

TIP for DADDY

Start discussing baby equipment like cribs, car seats etc.

Plan and try to get the best deals available in the market

TIP

Wearing rings and watches can cause circulation problems.

Sometimes when the woman suffers from swelling, its best to keep these away.

Some women have to get their ring cut by the jeweler.
