What
is Zygosity and Chorionicity?
Zygosity refers to the type of conception and chorionicity
refers to the number of placentas.
If a single embryo divides after 13 days of conception, the
division may be incomplete resulting in conjoined twins of
various types. The first of such twins was reported in Thailand
or Siam and so such twins are also called SIAMESE TWIS.
ULTRASOUND IS THE INVESTIGATION OF CHOICE TO
DIAGNOSE THE PRESENCE OF TWINS, ITS ZYGOSITY AND
CHORIONICITY.
